Prehibernation and hibernation effects on the D-3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase of the heavy and light mitochondria from liver jerboa (Jaculus orient…
2007
The D-3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (BDH) (EC 1.1.1.30) from liver jerboa (Jaculus orientalis), a ketone body converting enzyme in mitochondria, in two populations of mitochondria (heavy and light) has been studied in different jerboa states (euthermic, prehibernating and hibernating). The results reveal: (1) important variations between states in terms of ketones bodies, glucose and lipid levels; (2) significant differences between the BDH of the two mitochondrial populations in term of protein expression and kinetic properties. These results suggest that BDH leads an important conformational change depending on the physiological state of jerboa. This BDH structural change could be the c…
Detection of flap venous and arterial occlusion using interstitial glucose monitoring in a rodent model.
2010
Background: Free tissue transfer necessitates vigilant postoperative monitoring for vessel occlusion. Unfortunately, most monitoring methods require experienced personnel and are expensive to use. Furthermore, many tests have low sensitivity, low specificity, or significant delay between vessel occlusion and detection. The authors report on a novel method of tissue monitoring that avoids these limitations by tracking interstitial glucose concentration. Methods: Vertical rectus abdominis myocutaneous flaps were elevated in adult rats based on the superior epigastric vessels. Interstitial glucose within the flaps was monitored using a transcutaneous sensor. Interstitial glucose was recorded f…
The analysis of the diet composition of the barn owl Tyto alba (Scopoli, 1769) from the region of Brzeg, Opolskie Voivodeship (Poland)
2022
Research on the diet composition of the barn owl Tyto alba was conducted near the town of Przecza in the area of Lewin Brzeski (Opolskie Voivodeship. On the basis of 1158 bone elements, 14 species of small mammals were found, including 4 insectivorous species (Sorex araneus, Sorex minutus, Neomys fodiens, Cocidura suaveolens), 5 vole species (Microtus arvalis, Microtus agrestis, Arvicola terrestris, Myodes glareolus, Microtus oeconomus) and 5 mouse species (Mus musculus, Apodemus agrarius, Apodemus flavicolis, Apodemus sylvaticus, Micromys minutus). The diet was dominated by 3 species: Microtus arvalis, Sorex araneus and the Apodemus agrarius. The conducted research clearly shows that the T…

About some cases of common voles Microtus arvalis (Pallas, 1778) (Rodentia, Arvicolinae) characterised by a first lower molar with a pitymyan rhombus. This note describes and comments on some cases of common voles Microtus arvalis (Pallas, 1778) characterised by a first lower molar with a pitymyan rhombus.
Immunoaffinity purification and characterization of mitochondrial membrane-bound D-3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase from Jaculus orientalis.
2008
Abstract Background The interconversion of two important energy metabolites, 3-hydroxybutyrate and acetoacetate (the major ketone bodies), is catalyzed by D-3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (BDH1: EC 1.1.1.30), a NAD+-dependent enzyme. The eukaryotic enzyme is bound to the mitochondrial inner membrane and harbors a unique lecithin-dependent activity. Here, we report an advanced purification method of the mammalian BDH applied to the liver enzyme from jerboa (Jaculus orientalis), a hibernating rodent adapted to extreme diet and environmental conditions. Results Purifying BDH from jerboa liver overcomes its low specific activity in mitochondria for further biochemical characterization of the e…

Zróżnicowanie uzębienia u nornika zwyczajnego Microtus arvalis Pallas, 1778 z okolic Częstochowy (Wyżyna Śląska)
2021
An analysis of the diversity in the dentition of the common vole, Microtus arvalis, from three localities near Częstochowa (Panki, Przystajń and Mstów) is provided. Populations from these areas were compared to each other in these terms. The teeth were analyzed – the first lower molar (M1) and the upper third molar of the maxilla (M3). Four basic forms of Simplex, Typica, Duplicata and Variabilis were used to study the diversity of the upper tooth. We developed our own model for studying the differentiation of the lower tooth. The present research and a comparison with literature data confirm that the subspecies M. a. duplicatus does occur in the study area.
